MnO2-Based Materials for Environmental Applications

Ruijie Yang et al.

Summary: Manganese dioxide is a promising semiconductor material for environmental applications, but its purification efficiency has been limited. Recent efforts have focused on improving the purification efficiency through morphology control and structure construction. MnO2-based materials have potential for adsorption and degradation of pollutants, and future research should focus on nanostructures and composite design.

Linker-Free Magnetite-Decorated Gold Nanoparticles (Fe3O4-Au): Synthesis, Characterization, and Application for Electrochemical Detection of Arsenic (III)

Mohammed Sedki et al.

Summary: A new protocol was developed to grow linker-free magnetite nanoparticles-decorated gold nanoparticles, serving as a platform for synthesis of intact metal-metal oxide nanocomposites without the need for linkers. Characterization techniques such as XRD, FTIR, TEM, SEM, and EDX confirmed the successful synthesis and composition of the Fe3O4-Au nanocomposite, which showed excellent performance in electrochemical detection of As(III) in water with high precision and reproducibility. The Fe3O4-Au-IL sensing interface also demonstrated high accuracy in analyzing synthetic river and wastewater samples.

AgAu Hollow Nanoshells on Layered Graphene Oxide and Silica Submicrospheres as Plasmonic Nanozymes for Light-Enhanced Electrochemical H2O2 Sensing

Rafael T. P. da Silva et al.

Summary: In this study, AgAu bimetallic hollow nanoshells were synthesized in situ over layered graphene oxide and silica submicrospheres, and utilized as peroxidase-like nanozymes in plasmon-enhanced electrochemical sensing of H2O2. The nanozymes exhibited increased sensitivity to hydrogen peroxide under laser irradiation matching the LSPR band maximum for each synthesized structure, showing enhanced electron transfer rates and improved substrate affinity.

Fundamentals and applications of photo-thermal catalysis

Diego Mateo et al.

Summary: Photo-thermal catalysis utilizes light as an energy source to enhance reaction rates and change selectivity patterns through the synergistic combination of photo- and thermo-chemical contributions of sunlight. This review discusses the fundamentals of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) to explain the photo-thermal effect, describes different mechanistic pathways, and proposes material design strategies to improve photo-thermal performance towards the goal of wide implementation in the production of synthetic fuels and chemicals.
