Evaluating the key factors of soil fertility and tomato yield with fresh and aged biogas slurry addition through greenhouse experiment

Zewen Jin et al.

Summary: This study examined the effects of different dilutions of fresh and aged biogas slurry (FBS and ABS) on soil properties and tomato yield. The results showed that both FBS and ABS treatments increased soil pH, water-soluble salt concentration, electrical conductivity, nutrient content, and bacterial count, while decreasing fungi, actinomycetes, and nematode counts. These effects were more substantial for FBS treatment compared to ABS treatment at the same dilution. FBS treatment improved tomato yield by inhibiting fungi and actinomycetes, while ABS treatment improved yield by increasing nitrogen and phosphorus availability.

The removal of copper and zinc from swine wastewater by anaerobic biological-chemical process: Performance and mechanism

Zhuo Zeng et al.

Summary: Copper and zinc, common in swine wastewater, can be effectively removed by anaerobic granular sludge (AnGS) through adsorption and sulfide precipitation pathways. Batch and continuous experiments showed high removal efficiencies of 99% and 49% for Cu2+ and Zn2+ by AnGS, with the main mechanism being biological sulfide production followed by chemical precipitation and reduction.

Pollution characteristics and health risk assessment of arsenic transformed from feed additive organoarsenicals around chicken farms on the North China Plain

Yaci Liu et al.

Summary: The study conducted in the North China Plain investigated arsenic pollution characteristics and health risks around chicken farms, revealing the enrichment of As(III) in chicken manure and As(V) in surface soils. Arsenic was found to primarily accumulate in surface soils, and health risk assessment showed negligible carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks.

Biogas slurry application could potentially reduce N2O emissions and increase crop yield

Md Arifur Rahaman et al.

Summary: The integrated application of BS and CF shows potential in reducing N2O emissions, achieving maximum yield and minimum N2O emissions by optimizing the ratio of BS and CF. The study suggests that in wheat rotations, a ratio of 38% BS combined with 62% CF can reduce N2O emissions while maintaining stable crop yield.
