The Land-Water-Food-Environment nexus in the context of China's soybean import

Dandan Ren et al.

Summary: Soybean import accounts for 90% of China's total domestic soybean supply, impacting agricultural land use, crop production, water usage and N fertilizer application. The study found that converted soybean areas were mainly used for maize, rice, vegetables, and fruits, resulting in decreased soybean production but increased production of other crops. Irrigation water use and N fertilizer application also increased significantly on the converted areas.
