Effects of Combined Biochar and Vermicompost Solution on Leachate Characterization and Nitrogen Balance from a Greenhouse Tomato (Solanum Lycopersicum) Cultivation Soil

Michelangelo Becagli et al.

Summary: The combination of biochar and vermicompost can reduce nitrate and dissolved organic carbon losses from soil, while increasing plant nitrogen efficiency. Both B and BV treatments showed significant decrease in nitrate content in leachate and improved dry biomass of plants and fruits. Synergisms between char material and complex organic compounds from vermicompost process help safeguard soil quality, underground water, and crop sustainability.
