Permeability of Oil Shale Under In Situ Conditions: Fushun Oil Shale (China) Experimental Case Study

Jing Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the permeability of Fushun oil shale at different temperatures and found that it can be clearly divided into three stages under three-dimensional stress. The results suggest that the permeability of oil shale is significantly influenced by temperature, reaching a turning point at 350 degrees Celsius. This research has important implications for the large-scale exploitation of oil shale.

Comprehensive thermal maturity assessment in shales: a case study on the upper cretaceous Qingshankou formation (Songliao Basin, NE China)

Penglin Zhang et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the thermal maturity of the Qiangshankou Formation in the Songliao Basin by combining traditional and advanced petrographic and geochemical maturity proxies with clay mineralogical investigations. The vitrinite reflectance trend, supported by changes in clay mineralogy, provided valuable insights for understanding shale oil distribution in the central Songliao Basin. Maturity-related biomarker proxies showed partial validity, with some proxies proving insensitive to changes in maturity from immature to peak oil mature.

Group Method of Data Handling (GMDH) Neural Network for Estimating Total Organic Carbon (TOC) and Hydrocarbon Potential Distribution (S1, S2) Using Well Logs

Alvin K. Mulashani et al.

Summary: This study utilized the GMDH neural network to predict geochemical data of TOC, S-1, and S-2 from well logs, showing better generalization performance compared to ANN and Delta logR. When testing S-1 and S-2, the GMDH outperformed ANN by avoiding overfitting and achieving lower errors.
