Provision and Perception of Physiotherapy in the Nonoperative Management of Degenerative Cervical Myelopathy (DCM): A Cross-Sectional Questionnaire of People Living With DCM

Max B. Butler et al.

Summary: This study investigated the usage and perceptions of nonoperative physiotherapy for degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM). The results showed that few patients perceived benefit from physiotherapy, but this was more likely in those with mild DCM and shorter symptom durations. This suggests a need for further research on the appropriate role of physiotherapy in the management of DCM.

Outcomes of Degenerative Cervical Myelopathy From The Perspective of Persons Living With the Condition: Findings of a Semistructured Interview Process With Partnered Internet Survey

Benjamin M. Davies et al.

Summary: This study utilized a mixed-methods cross-sectional design to explore the consequences of degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) on individuals. Through focus group discussions and an online survey of DCM sufferers, a comprehensive list of DCM consequences was compiled. This will inform the development of a core outcome set for DCM research in the future.

Prevailing Outcome Themes Reported by People With Degenerative Cervical Myelopathy: Focus Group Study

Danyal Zaman Khan et al.

Summary: Degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) is a common and potentially disabling condition caused by arthritic changes in the cervical spine leading to compression and injury to the spinal cord. Research on DCM faces challenges due to heterogeneous reporting of study data. The RECODE-DCM project aims to improve research efficiency by developing a core outcome set. Through qualitative exploration of patient-reported outcomes, this study identified several unmeasured themes in clinical research or care, providing a unique perspective on the impact of DCM.
