Glycyrrhizin Mediates Downregulation of Notch Pathway Resulting in Initiation of Apoptosis and Disruption in the Cell Cycle Progression in Cervical Cancer Cells

Afza Ahmad et al.

Summary: The study found that glycyrrhizin (GLY) has anti-proliferative and apoptotic effects on HPV-C33A cervical cancer cells, inducing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. This effect may be associated with GLY's impact on mitochondrial membrane potential and activation of multiple apoptotic signaling pathways.

Repolarization of glioblastoma macrophage cells using non-agonistic Dectin-1 ligand encapsulating TLR-9 agonist: plausible role in regenerative medicine against brain tumor

Rohit Kumar Tiwari et al.

Summary: This study investigates the potential of nano-encapsulated CpG ODN as a critical factor in repolarizing M2 macrophages to the desired pro-inflammatory type, showing promising results in inducing apoptosis in glioblastoma cells and suggesting the suitability of CpG ODN carrying nanoformulations as emerging therapeutic intervention for GBM.

Carvacrol Exhibits Chemopreventive Potential against Cervical Cancer Cells via Caspase-Dependent Apoptosis and Abrogation of Cell Cycle Progression

Afza Ahmad et al.

Summary: Carvacrol suppresses the proliferation of HPV18+ HeLa cervical cancer cells by inducing apoptosis and blocking cell cycle progression; it shows a synergistic effect with chemotherapeutic drugs; natural compounds may reduce the toxic effects of chemotherapeutics.

Alteration of Salmonella enterica Virulence and Host Pathogenesis through Targeting sdiA by Using the CRISPR-Cas9 System

Momen Askoura et al.

Summary: The CRISPR-Cas9 system was used to target the S. enterica sdiA gene, showing significant impacts on biofilm formation, cell adhesion, and invasion, but not intracellular survival. Double mutations in sdiA and ssaV attenuated S. enterica virulence and in vivo pathogenesis. Mutations in selected genes increased Salmonella susceptibility to antibiotics.

Swertia chirayita suppresses the growth of non-small cell lung cancer A549 cells and concomitantly induces apoptosis via downregulation of JAK1/STAT3 pathway

Afza Ahmad et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the anticancer and apoptotic effects of Swertia chirayita extract on lung cancer cells, finding that the extract induced toxicity and apoptosis in lung cancer cells, and inhibited proliferation and survival by down-regulating the JAK1/STAT3 signaling pathway.

Targeting Autophagy with Natural Compounds in Cancer: A Renewed Perspective from Molecular Mechanisms to Targeted Therapy

Qiang Xie et al.

Summary: Natural products have been shown to have therapeutic benefits for cancer therapy by modulating key autophagic signaling pathways, providing inspiration for the discovery of novel small-molecule drugs. Some representative natural compounds, such as curcumin and resveratrol, have displayed therapeutic effects in different types of human cancers through the regulation of autophagy pathways. These findings suggest the potential for exploring more natural compounds as candidate drugs for future cancer therapy targeting autophagy pathways.

Formulation, characterization, and cellular toxicity assessment of tamoxifen-loaded silk fibroin nanoparticles in breast cancer

Afrasim Moin et al.

Summary: The study successfully prepared silk fibroin nanoparticles loaded with tamoxifen citrate and demonstrated their excellent anticancer effects against breast cancer cells, mainly through inducing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. The results suggest that silk fibroin nanoparticles could serve as an attractive nontoxic nanocarrier for delivering anticancer drugs.
