BIOMECHANICAL ASSESSMENT OF WEAR IN CERAMIC ON CERAMIC AND CERAMIC ON XLPE THAs

Athanasios Triantafyllou et al.

Summary: The study reviewed the effect of kinematics and kinetics on wear in Ceramic on Ceramic and Ceramic on XLPE total hip arthroplasties, finding no significant evidence for biomechanical advantages between the two implants in terms of wear. Further research is recommended using gait analysis systems combined with surface electromyography to investigate THA biomechanics in a laboratory setting. Wearable sensors technology could identify detailed biomechanical parameters in more complex daily activities.
