A novel method to construct antimicrobial surface by decorating polyacrylonitrile nanofibrous membrane with nanoparticles

Mohammed Awad Abedalwafa et al.

Summary: In this study, polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibrous membranes (NFMs) with antibacterial and hydrophobic properties were prepared using electrospinning technology and spark ablation technology. Cu and/or Zn nanoparticles (NPs) were deposited on the surface of PAN NFMs, effectively improving the hydrophobicity and demonstrating good antibacterial activity, especially for Zn@PAN NFMs.

Argon and Argon-Oxygen Plasma Surface Modification of Gelatin Nanofibers for Tissue Engineering Applications

Abolfazl Mozaffari et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that functionalization of gelatin nanofibers using plasma method can improve their biocompatibility. After plasma treatment, the surface morphology and diameter of nanofibers remained unchanged, but the surface roughness increased and the nanofibers became completely hydrophilic. Using plasma-treated gelatin nanofibers can increase the number of fibroblast cells.

Fabricating Antibacterial and Antioxidant Electrospun Hydrophilic Polyacrylonitrile Nanofibers Loaded with AgNPs by Lignin-Induced In-Situ Method

Md. Kaiser Haider et al.

Summary: This study investigated the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers using lignin, demonstrating the presence of AgNPs and potential biomedical applications of the composite nanofibers. The synthesized AgNPs were found to be dependent on precursor silver salt and reductant lignin concentration, with promising antibacterial efficacy against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains. Initial burst release of silver elements and proportionally expansive release amounts were observed, indicating the potential for use in biomedicine.
