Conformation of myelin basic protein bound to phosphatidylinositol membrane characterized by vacuum-ultraviolet circular-dichroism spectroscopy and molecular-dynamics simulations

Munehiro Kumashiro et al.

Summary: The study characterized the conformation of MBP in the myelin membrane using VUVCD spectra, showing that MBP interacts with the membrane through balancing electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions. Secondary-structure analysis revealed approximately 40% helix content in the membrane-bound MBP, with molecular dynamics simulations predicting amphiphilic and nonamphiphilic helices as key interaction sites with the membrane.
