Engineering of domain wall propagation in magnetic microwires with graded magnetic anisotropy

P. Corte-Leon et al.

Summary: We study the influence of graded magnetic anisotropy on domain wall propagation in magnetic microwires. Our experiments show that domain wall propagation is nonuniform in a medium with graded magnetic anisotropy. Strong stress-annealing induced magnetic anisotropy can trap the domain wall in the microwire region, while moderate stress-annealing induced magnetic anisotropy leads to faster domain wall propagation and a decrease in domain wall length. The beneficial effect of stress annealing on domain wall dynamics is associated with the induced transverse magnetic anisotropy in the outer domain.

Effect of Joule heating on giant magnetoimpedance effect and magnetic properties of Co-rich microwires

P. Corte-Leon et al.

Summary: The influence of Joule heating on hysteresis loops and giant magnetoimpedance effect of Co69.2Fe3.6Ni1B12.5Si11Mo1.5C1.2 glass-coated microwire was studied. Joule heating can prevent magnetic hardening and lead to a remarkable improvement in GMI ratio compared to conventional furnace annealing. The observed magnetic softening and GMI ratio improvement are attributed to magnetic anisotropy induced by the Oersted magnetic field during Joule heating and relaxation of internal stresses.

Engineering of magnetic properties and magnetoimpedance effect in Fe-rich microwires by reversible and irreversible stress-annealing anisotropy

P. Corte-Leon et al.

Summary: This study thoroughly analyzed the magnetic properties of amorphous FeSiBC microwires using hysteresis loops and Giant magnetoimpedance (GMI) measurements, focusing on the influence of annealing on the GMI effect and magnetic properties. It was observed that stress annealing induced transverse magnetic anisotropy and improved GMI effect, with the reversibility of the induced anisotropy depending on annealing conditions. Further improvements in GMI effect were achieved by annealing without stress following stress annealing in Fe-Si-B-C microwires.

Summary: The study demonstrates that stress annealing can prevent magnetic hardening and significantly improve the giant magnetoimpedance ratio. Samples properly stress-annealed exhibit better magnetic softness, almost unhysteretic loops with coercivity about 2 A m(-1) and magnetic anisotropy field about 35 A m(-1).

Electronic Surveillance and Security Applications of Magnetic Microwires

Valentina Zhukova et al.

Summary: The use of glass-coated microwires for electronic article surveillance and security applications offers a unique combination of excellent magnetic properties, thin dimensions, and strong mechanical and anticorrosive properties. Different methods of tuning the magnetic properties of individual microwires or arrays have been explored, leading to increased harmonics and adjustable magnetic field dependencies. Nonlinear hysteresis loops have been observed in mixed arrays containing Fe- and Co-rich microwires, and the devitrification of amorphous microwires has also resulted in nonlinear hysteresis loops. Annealing can produce semihard magnetic microwires, offering new possibilities for applications.
