Glyphosate and AMPA binding by two polyamino-phenolic ligands and their dinuclear Zn(II) complexes

Luca Conti et al.

Summary: This study investigated the binding abilities of two polyamino-phenolic compounds towards a popular herbicide and its metabolite, demonstrating a strong preference for anion binding. The formation of metal complexes significantly influenced the binding properties, leading to different binding selectivities among the systems. Coordination of substrates by the metallo-receptors was effectively supported by NMR experiments, highlighting the potential for targeted species recognition and sensing in aqueous solutions.

A Metal-Based Receptor for Selective Coordination and Fluorescent Sensing of Chloride

Mauro Formica et al.

Summary: The scorpionate Zn2+ complex can selectively recognize chloride anions, leading to visible changes in fluorescence emission under a 365 nm UV lamp. This recognition process involves the intramolecular displacement of the PyPD unit by chloride anions, as revealed by absorption, fluorescence, and NMR spectroscopy. Additionally, since the chromophore remains in the system after the recognition event, the fluorescence can be easily restored by eliminating the bound chloride anion.

Dye-functionalized phosphate-binding macrocycles: from nucleotide to G-quadruplex recognition and turn-on fluorescence sensing

Aleksandr S. Oshchepkov et al.

Summary: A novel strategy was developed to design turn-on fluorescent receptors for DNA G-quadruplexes, utilizing the combination of phosphate binding macrocycles (PBM) with naphthalimide dyes. A new PBM-dye family was synthesized and evaluated for its binding and detection abilities towards nucleotides and DNA G-quadruplexes of varied topologies.
