Modulation of Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in the Aged Lacrimal Gland

Summary: Aging in C57BL/6 mice showed increased inflammation and oxidative stress markers in the lacrimal gland, while young Nrf2(-/-) mice exhibited elevated levels of inflammatory markers compared to wild-type mice and experienced greater age-related changes. Dietary intervention with Oltipraz reduced oxidative stress markers and inflammatory gene expression, and also improved conjunctival goblet cell density in aged mice. These findings suggest that targeting oxidative stress pathways may be beneficial for treating age-related dry eye.
