Amelioration of metabolic disorders by a mushroom-derived polyphenols correlates with the reduction of Ruminococcaceae in gut of DIO mice

Li Sun et al.

Summary: An extract enriched with polyphenolic alkaloids was prepared from the fruiting bodies of the wild edible mushroom Sarcodon leucopus. Oral administration of this extract improved metabolic syndrome in high fat diet-induced obese mice, potentially through altering the gut microbiome.

Relationships of gut microbiota, short-chain fatty acids, inflammation, and the gut barrier in Parkinson's disease

Velma T. E. Aho et al.

Summary: This study found that intestinal inflammatory responses and reductions in fecal SCFAs occur in Parkinson's disease (PD), are related to the microbiota and to disease onset, and are not reflected in plasma inflammatory profiles. Some of these relationships are distinct in PD and are sex-dependent. This study revealed potential alterations in microbiota-host interactions and links between earlier PD onset and intestinal inflammatory responses and reduced SCFA levels.

Methionine restriction alleviates age-associated cognitive decline via fibroblast growth factor 21

Bo Ren et al.

Summary: Methionine restriction has shown protective effects against age-related cognitive decline in mice through preserving synaptic ultrastructure, increasing mitochondrial biogenesis, and reducing brain MDA levels. The role of FGF21 in this process is crucial.
