Intravenous kainic acid induces status epilepticus and late onset seizures in mice

Nicolas D. Drysdale et al.

Summary: A novel mouse model of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) was established by inducing status epilepticus (SE) through kainic acid (KA) injection into the tail vein. The injection of KA reliably induced SE in mice, leading to the development of TLE in a subset of animals, while those injected with phosphate buffered saline (PBS) did not show epileptic symptoms.
