Impacts of climate-induced permafrost degradation on vegetation: A review

Jin Xiao-Ying et al.

Summary: The degradation of permafrost under a warming climate has profound impacts on arctic and alpine ecology. Existing studies mainly focus on the hydrothermal impacts of vegetation on permafrost, with limited research on the ecological impacts of permafrost degradation. Permafrost degradation influences vegetation by altering soil hydrology, biogeochemical processes, and microbial communities.

What drives the rapid water-level recovery of the largest lake (Qinghai Lake) of China over the past half century?

Chenyu Fan et al.

Summary: In recent years, Qinghai Lake has seen a rapid recovery in water levels, mainly due to substantial increases in key wet years. The water level changes are correlated with annual precipitation rather than temperature and evaporation. Atmospheric water vapor in the Qinghai Lake basin is primarily transported from the west and southwest to the east.

Permafrost change in Northeast China in the 1950s-2010s

Zhang Zhong-Qiong et al.

Summary: The study shows that permafrost area in Northeast China has decreased over the past few decades, with the southern boundary moving northward and average elevation rising, mainly due to rising surface temperatures and other environmental factors. Different types of permafrost degrade at different rates, and the impact of snowfall and rainfall varies in different seasons on permafrost degradation.
