Comparative accuracy testing of non-contact infrared thermometers and temporal artery thermometers in an adult hospital setting

Shahrukh Khan et al.

Summary: This study compared the accuracy of NCIT and TAT in adult patients, finding that they were closely aligned at temperatures <37.5 degrees C but not at temperatures >37.5 degrees C. NCIT had poor accuracy at temperatures >37.5 degrees C, indicating it may not be the most suitable device for mass fever screening during a pandemic.

Review of the efficacy of infrared thermography for screening infectious diseases with applications to COVID-19

Kosar Khaksari et al.

Summary: The recent spread of COVID-19 highlighted the importance of disease transmission control, with infrared thermography (IRT) considered a method for screening febrile individuals during pandemics. However, studies evaluating the efficacy of IRT have produced varied results, suggesting the need for additional physiological parameters to enhance the sensitivity and specificity of non-invasive biosensors.
