Glycolytic inhibitor induces metabolic crisis in solid cancer cells to enhance cold plasma-induced cell death

Nagendra K. Kaushik et al.

Summary: Enhancing the efficiency of air gas plasma treatment by using the metabolic modifier 2-deoxy-D-glucose can lead to selective death of solid cancer cells without affecting normal cells. This approach shows great potential for increasing nonthermal plasma activity.

Plasma treatment causes structural modifications in lysozyme, and increases cytotoxicity towards cancer cells

Pankaj Attri et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that modifying the lysozyme structure using cold atmospheric plasma can enhance its activity against cancer cells at neutral pH, while causing activity loss at acidic pH. Plasma treatment induced greater structural distortion at acidic pH due to more oxidation of amino acids, resulting in limited structural changes at neutral pH. The plasma-treated lysozyme was found to significantly induce apoptosis in cancer cells, suggesting its potential as a new anticancer drug.

Plasma-synthesized mussel-inspired gold nanoparticles promote autophagy-dependent damage-associated molecular pattern release to potentiate immunogenic cancer cell death

Linh Nhat Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study focused on the use of polydopamine-coated gold nanoparticles (Au@PDA NPs) with excellent selectivity towards cancer cells, stimulating immunogenic cell death. The damaged cells released damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) after exposure to Au@PDA NPs, regulating the subsequent immune response. Au@PDA NPs show potential for cancer immunotherapy by triggering anti-tumor immunity.
