Low levels of PCSK9 are associated with remission in patients with rheumatoid arthritis treated with anti-TNF-α: potential underlying mechanisms

Johan Frostegard et al.

Summary: Low PCSK9 levels at baseline are associated with DAS28-responder to anti-TNF-alpha treatment in RA. Higher PCSK9 levels are correlated with higher disease activity after 1 year of TNF-alpha antagonist treatment. PCSK9 induces proinflammatory cytokine production from macrophages and synoviocytes, which can be inhibited by anti-PCSK9 antibodies.
