Obesity and overall mortality: findings from the Jackson Heart Study

Yuan-I Min et al.

Summary: The study found that obesity defined by waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio was associated with an increased risk of overall and cardiovascular mortality in African American participants, while obesity defined by BMI was only associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular mortality. Waist-to-hip ratio was the only obesity measure that showed a monotonic increasing relationship with overall and cardiovascular mortality.
