Effect of plasticity on voltage decay studied by a stress coupled phase field reaction model

Yuyang Lu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the issue of stress-induced voltage decay in electrode materials, revealing that plastic deformation plays a positive role in mitigating voltage decay, especially under small yield stress. Additionally, under the same yield stress, the two-phase lithiation process is more likely to trigger plastic deformation, facilitating an increase in output voltage.

A First Molecular Dynamics Study for Modeling the Microstructure and Mechanical Behavior of Si Nanopillars during Lithiation

Fei Shuang et al.

Summary: This study is the first to employ large-scale atomistic simulations to investigate the stress generation and deformation mechanisms of Si nanopillars during Li-ion insertion. The findings suggest that hollow amorphous SiNPs demonstrate the highest fracture resistance and are considered the optimal form of Si as an anode. These results can guide the design of new Si-based anode geometries for next-generation Li-ion batteries.
