Classical Xanthinuria in Nine Israeli Families and Two Isolated Cases from Germany: Molecular, Biochemical and Population Genetics Aspects

Summary: Classical xanthinuria is a rare autosomal recessive metabolic disorder caused by variants in the XDH or MOCOS genes. This study reported the demographic, clinical, molecular, and biochemical characteristics of affected individuals, identified new variants, and elucidated the impact of these variants on protein structure and function. The research expanded the understanding of pathogenic variants, structural and functional residues in XDH and MOCOS proteins, and population genetics of classical xanthinuria.
