Sustainable oxidation catalysis supported by light: Fe-poly (heptazine imide) as a heterogeneous single-atom photocatalyst

Marcos A. R. da Silva et al.

Summary: This study presents an alternative method for the preparation of highly active Fe single-atom catalysts (SACs) with Fe-N4 sites, which exhibit high selectivity in the oxidation of C-H bonds. The catalyst obtained through ion exchange can effectively oxidize C-H bonds to ketones under light irradiation.

Oxygen-doped crystalline carbon nitride with greatly extended visible-light-responsive range for photocatalytic H2 generation

Guoqiang Zhang et al.

Summary: A series of oxygen-doped K+ implanted CCN (KCN) materials were successfully prepared, exhibiting a wider photoresponse range for visible and near-infrared light absorption, leading to improved solar energy utilization. The oxygen doping strategy in KCN resulted in significantly enhanced H-2 generation, with a maximum active wavelength of 650 nm, presenting clear advantages over other CCN-based photocatalysts.

Ingrid F. Silva et al.

Summary: The structural defects of metal-free polymeric carbon nitrides were controlled using different precursors, leading to modifications in electronic, morphological, and chemical properties. The thiourea-synthesized material showed higher efficiency and stability in amoxicillin photodegradation, with a proposed mechanism based on ESI-MS and in situ EPR investigations.

Photocatalytic Water Splitting Reaction Catalyzed by Ion-Exchanged Salts of Potassium Poly(heptazine imide) 2D Materials

Sudhir K. Sahoo et al.

Summary: Potassium poly (heptazine imide) (K-PHI) is a two-dimensional carbon-nitride material that can be exchanged with ions to change its properties for designing catalysts. Different ion-exchanged salts of K-PHI were studied for water splitting photocatalysis, with Mg-PHI showing remarkable performance in hydrogen evolution. Ru-PHI was found to be unsuitable for photocatalysis due to its narrow band gap, while H-PHI, Au-PHI, and Mg-PHI are active for both oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions.

Guoqiang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study successfully prepared a series of K+-implanted carbon nitride materials (KCCN), and by constructing a concentration gradient of K+ ions and an induced built-in electric field by cyan groups, the photocatalytic performance was enhanced, providing a new approach for visible light-driven H-2 evolution.

Graphitic carbon nitrides as platforms for single-atom photocatalysis

Felippe M. Colombari et al.

Summary: Adding single transition metal atoms to graphitic carbon nitrides can tailor their electronic and chemical properties, impacting their usage in photocatalysis. The performance of these single-atom photocatalysts varied when tested with model compounds, depending on the match between molecular charge and catalyst surface potential. Computer simulations showed significant changes in the electronic structure of the materials and enhanced light absorption with the addition of transition metal atoms.

Cooperative catalytically active sites for methanol activation by single metal ion-doped H-ZSM-5

Wei-Che Lin et al.

Summary: By analyzing metal-modified ZSM-5 zeolites using X-ray and neutron powder diffractions, it is found that active pairs of metal site-BAS within molecular distance can facilitate the heterolytic cleavage of small molecules and subsequent formation of products with high selectivity. This may explain their active and selective catalytic routes for small molecule activations.
