Challenges for immunotherapy for the treatment of platinum resistant ovarian cancer

Olivia Le Saux et al.

Summary: Platinum resistant ovarian cancer is a heterogeneous disease with poor prognosis and reduced immune cell infiltration, leading to low response rates to anti-PD1/PD-L1 monotherapy. Various therapeutic strategies are being investigated to enhance response rates, including combining chemotherapy, anti-angiogenic agents, and other immune checkpoint inhibitors.

Switching from Apoptosis to Pyroptosis: Gasdermin-Elicited Inflammation and Antitumor Immunity

Kohsuke Tsuchiya

Summary: Pyroptosis is a regulated form of cell death, executed by Gasdermines (GSDMs) that form pores in the plasma membrane leading to cell lysis. Pyroptotic cells release pro-inflammatory molecules, eliciting inflammation and immune responses. Recent studies have advanced our understanding of pyroptosis mechanisms and roles, which may aid in the development of cancer immunotherapy.

A novel defined pyroptosis-related gene signature for predicting the prognosis of ovarian cancer

Ying Ye et al.

Summary: This study identified pyroptosis-related genes in ovarian cancer (OC) that may play important roles in tumor immunity and can be used to predict the prognosis of OCs. By dividing OC cases into subtypes based on the expression of these genes, different risk groups were identified with significant differences in survival possibilities. Additionally, immune-related genes were found to be enriched in high-risk groups, indicating a decreased immune status in these patients.

Identification and validation of a novel glycolysis-related gene signature for predicting the prognosis in ovarian cancer

Jing Yu et al.

Summary: A novel risk signature incorporating five glycolysis-related genes was identified to effectively assess the prognosis and guide the treatment of OC patients. This signature was associated with KEGG pathways related to axon guidance, mTOR signalling, tight junctions, etc., and could accurately predict survival rate. Lower expression levels of ISG20 and SEH1L in tumor tissues compared to normal tissues were observed, and overexpression of ISG20 or SEH1L inhibited proliferation, migration, invasion in vitro, and tumor growth in vivo.

Unraveling the Wide Spectrum of Melanoma Biomarkers

Antonios Revythis et al.

Summary: The use of biomarkers in medicine is crucial for diagnosis, prognostication, and prediction of treatment response. With advancements in understanding DNA mutational profiles, new gene targets and proteins are being identified. Currently, only a small number of available biomarkers are being utilized, but this could change with more research being published.
