Cutting and gluing with running couplings in N=2 QCD

Johannes Aspman et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the behavior of the order parameter u = < Tr phi(2)> as a function of the running coupling constant a in asymptotically free N = 2 QCD with SU(2) gauge group and less than 3 massive hypermultiplets. By restricting the domain of a to a suitable fundamental domain, we show that u is one to one, and these domains consist of six or less images of an SL(2 , 7L) keyhole fundamental domain.

Exponential BPS Graphs and D Brane Counting on Toric Calabi-Yau Threefolds: Part I

Sibasish Banerjee et al.

Summary: In this study, the BPS spectra of D-branes on local Calabi-Yau threefolds were explored using nonabelianization for exponential networks to calculate unframed BPS indices. By computing new types of BPS invariants of 3d-5d BPS states, known results on these BPS spectra were accurately reproduced through wall-crossing. Additionally, the notion of exponential BPS graphs was developed for the simplest toric examples, showing their encoding of quiver and potential associated to the Calabi-Yau through geometric engineering.

More on N=2 S-folds

Simone Giacomelli et al.

Summary: The systematic study explores the 4d N = 2 preserving S-folds of F-theory 7-branes and the worldvolume theories on D3-branes probing them, identifying two infinite series of theories denoted as S-G,l((r)) and T-G,l((r)). The distinction lies in the discrete torsion carried by the S-fold and in the difference in the asymptotic holonomy of the gauge bundle on the 7-brane, with various properties being explored using diverse field theoretical and string theoretical methods.

Coulomb and Higgs branches from canonical singularities. Part 0

Cyril Closset et al.

Summary: This paper mainly discusses the five-dimensional and four-dimensional superconformal field theories arising from canonical threefold singularities in M-theory and Type IIB string theory. It studies their Coulomb and Higgs branches, and proposes a relation between the resulting moduli spaces through compactification, mirror symmetry, and gauging. By applying this framework, it determines the Higgs branches of some 5d SCFTs and their magnetic quivers. Finally, it also computes the higher-form symmetries of the 4d and 5d SCFTs.

Oren Bergman et al.

Summary: By utilizing 5-brane webs, we examined the two-dimensional space of supersymmetric mass deformations of higher rank generalizations of the 5d E-1 and E-1 theories. The analysis suggests that the number of different phases increases with the rank, and the space of deformations varies qualitatively for even and odd rank cases.

5D BPS quivers and KK towers

Zhihao Duan et al.

Summary: This study focuses on BPS quivers for D = 5 theories, compactified on a circle and engineered over local Calabi-Yau 3-folds. It discusses the challenges faced in known machineries and proposes mathematical theorems to address the difficulties. The study finds that for Abelian quivers, the counting can be reduced to a geometric one, while for non-Abelian quivers, the cohomology approach fails.

Higher-form symmetries of 6d and 5d theories

Lakshya Bhardwaj et al.

Summary: The paper describes general methods for determining higher-form symmetry groups of known 5d and 6d superconformal field theories (SCFTs) and 6d little string theories (LSTs). It delves into the complexity and subtleties arising from the interaction of BPS excitations and gauge group centers in describing the 1-form symmetry of these theories. Furthermore, it discusses ways to determine the 2-form symmetry group of 6d theories using the Green-Schwarz coupling associated with the theory.

Summary: The study explores the properties of the vacuum space of many four-dimensional N=2 super-symmetric gauge theories, including cases for the gauge groups SU(2) and SU(3). For the SU(3) vacuum space, by analyzing the Rosenhain form of the curves, two subsets E-u and E-v were discovered, representing families of elliptic curves and fundamental domains containing superconformal points respectively.

BPS Quivers of Five-Dimensional SCFTs, Topological Strings and q-Painleve Equations

Giulio Bonelli et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the discrete flows generated by the BPS quivers associated with the symmetry group of Calabi-Yau geometries representing five-dimensional superconformal quantum field theories on a circle. These flows naturally describe the BPS particle spectrum and produce q-Painleve equations. The solutions of these equations are shown to be related to grand canonical topological string partition functions.

1-form symmetry, isolated N=2 SCFTs, and Calabi-Yau threefolds

Matthew Buican et al.

Summary: In this study, the authors systematically examine 4D N = 2 superconformal field theories constructed via isolated hypersurface singularities in C-4 using type IIB string theory. They show that theories in this class without exactly marginal deformations do not possess 1-form symmetry, which may have origins in gauge groups. Furthermore, it is suggested that general interacting 4D N = 2 SCFTs with Coulomb branch chiral ring generators of dimension less than two also lack 1-form symmetry.

Summary: This study reveals a finite-order mixed 't Hooft anomaly in five-dimensional non-abelian gauge theories, as well as an obstruction to coupling the U(1) global symmetry with a classical background gauge field associated with a one-form center symmetry. A similar obstruction is found to occur in gauge theories with fundamental matter. Furthermore, the general dynamical properties of the candidate phases implied by the anomaly are explored.

Hee-Cheol Kim et al.

Summary: The proposed method offers a systematic approach to computing the BPS spectrum of 5d/6d supersymmetric quantum field theories in Coulomb phases, utilizing blowup equations and the Omega background. It has been successfully applied to calculate the BPS spectra of various rank-1 and rank-2 5d Kaluza-Klein (KK) theories, with discussions on exotic cases such as new 5d SCFTs and the 5d SU(3)(8) gauge theory. These results serve as important checks for dualities among 5d theories and provide independent evidence for the existence of certain exotic theories.

On the compactification of 5d theories to 4d

Mario Martone et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the mapping between 5d and 4d superconformal field theories under various compactification and deformation scenarios. We identify the parent theories of rank-2 4d N = 2 SCFTs from N = 1 5d SCFTs, and explore mass deformation trajectories among these theories in 4d. By understanding the mass deformations in 5d and mapping them to 4d, we uncover criteria that moduli spaces of vacua must satisfy when SCFTs are related by mass deformations, which we verify for all identified RG-flows.

Summary: The study provides evidence for a new strongly-coupled four-dimensional N = 2 superconformal field theory, which appears as a nontrivial IR fixed point on the Coulomb branch of a mass-deformed superconformal Lagrangian theory with gauge group G(2) and four fundamental hypermultiplets. The analysis is based on various geometric constraints to bootstrap the theory data without explicit reference to the Seiberg-Witten curve. Additionally, a conjecture for a corresponding vertex operator algebra is proposed, along with verification that the vacuum character satisfies a fourth-order linear modular differential equation, and an identification with existing Class S constructions is suggested.

Summary: Canonical hypersurface singularities in M-theory and Type IIB string theory lead to 5d and 4d superconformal field theories (SCFTs), respectively. This paper focuses on a specific class of 'trinion' singularities in Type IIB, which give rise to 4d N = 2 SCFTs known as Dpb(G)-trinions.
