Towards Minimizing the R Metric for Measuring Network Robustness

Summary: This research discusses the important issue of network topology robustness and proposes a solution. Firstly, to minimize R, a node needs to be always removed from the largest connected component of the current network in each round. Secondly, the Min-R problem has an Optimal Substructure and can be solved by Dynamic Programming. Finally, an efficient and optimal logarithmic-time algorithm is provided for Min-R on path graphs.

Summary: This paper studies cyber-attacks aimed at removing nodes or links from network topologies, proposing optimal and approximate solutions, as well as heuristics to reduce complexity. Experimental results show that the approximate solution produces almost identical results to the optimal solution in practice, with an acceptable running time.
