High Efficiency Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 Solar Cells with Shallow LiZn Acceptor Defects Enabled by Solution-Based Li Post-Deposition Treatment

Mingrui He et al.

Summary: The incorporation of lithium in kesterite Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)(4) (CZTSSe) materials has been experimentally proven to improve electronic quality in photovoltaic devices. A solution-based lithium post-deposition treatment was reported to further enhance efficiency by uniformly incorporating lithium into grain interiors, leading to a significant efficiency boost from 9.3% to 10.7%.

Sodium Effects on the Diffusion, Phase, and Defect Characteristics of Kesterite Solar Cells and Flexible Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 with Greater than 11% Efficiency

Kee-Jeong Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of Na doping on the efficiency of kesterite solar cells by applying a NaF layer at different positions within precursors. The NaF layer limits Zn diffusion, suppresses Cu-Zn alloy formation, and provides reactive Se and S to the absorber layer, reducing the impact of Na and improving efficiency. By applying NaF between the Zn layer and back contact and between the Cu and Sn layers, efficiency values of 11.16% and 11.19% are achieved for flexible CZTSSe solar cells.

Impact of RbF and NaF Postdeposition Treatments on Charge Carrier Transport and Recombination in Ga-Graded Cu(In,Ga)Se2 Solar Cells

Yu-Han Chang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of NaF and RbF postdeposition treatments on minority carrier dynamics in Cu(In,Ga)Se-2 solar cells using transient absorption spectroscopy. NaF PDT improves electron recombination lifetimes, while the effectiveness of RbF PDT decreases with higher Ga-concentrations. Additionally, both alkali PDTs promote electron mobility in the absorber region with large grains.

Systematic Efficiency Improvement for Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 Solar Cells By Double Cation Incorporation with Cd and Ge

Mingrui He et al.

Summary: In this study, the performance of kesterite CZTSSe solar cell was significantly improved by incorporating small amounts of Ge and Cd into the absorber, reducing nonradiative recombination and enhancing carrier collection efficiency. The combination of Ge and Cd incorporation led to higher open-circuit voltage, short-circuit current density, and fill factor, resulting in a high conversion efficiency of 11.6%. This research highlights the importance of multiple cation incorporation strategy for systematically manipulating the opto-electronic properties of kesterite materials.

Origin of the low conversion efficiency in Cu2ZnSnS4 kesterite solar cells: the actual role of cation disorder

Wei Chen et al.

Summary: The study examines the controversial role of cation disorder in the low open-circuit voltage of CZTS kesterite absorber. It suggests that extensive disorder stabilizes the formation of Sn-Zn antisite, contributing to the V-OC deficit. The methodology presented in this work offers insight into optimizing kesterite solar devices for higher efficiency.

Identifying the origin of the Voc deficit of kesterite solar cells from the two grain growth mechanisms induced by Sn2+ and Sn4+ precursors in DMSO solution

Yuancai Gong et al.

Summary: By investigating the grain growth mechanism of Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)(4) solar cells, this study reveals that the large voltage deficit issue limiting kesterite solar cell efficiency mainly originates from surface deep defects, and high efficiency (>12%) and low V-oc deficit (<300 mV) of Sn4+ processed CZTSSe solar cells highlight a new strategy for fabricating high quality kesterite absorbers.
