Novel Strongly Correlated Europium Superhydrides

Dmitrii Semenok et al.

Summary: A joint experimental-theoretical investigation revealed novel magnetic Eu superhydrides with distinct magnetic orderings and phase transitions. The study showed that the atomic radius plays a significant role in the symmetry-breaking distortions and thermodynamic stability of superhydrides, as evidenced by close agreement between experimental data and predictions based on the DFT+U approach.

Nonstandard superconductivity or no superconductivity in hydrides under high pressure

J. E. Hirsch et al.

Summary: Research shows that these high-temperature superconducting materials are either a new type of nonstandard superconductor or not superconductors at all. If the former is true, their critical current should be several orders of magnitude higher than in standard superconductors, potentially leading to important technological applications. If the latter is the case, which is believed to be more likely, the signals interpreted as superconductivity may be experimental artifacts or indicators of other interesting physics rather than actual superconductivity.
