An Inorganic-Rich Solid Electrolyte Interphase for Advanced Lithium-Metal Batteries in Carbonate Electrolytes

Sufu Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, an inorganic-rich solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) was designed on the Li-metal surface in carbonate electrolytes to reduce the bonding energy with Li metal, enabling high Li plating/stripping efficiency and cycling performance. The weak bonding of the SEI to Li promotes Li diffusion and prevents Li dendrite penetration, resulting in a high Coulombic efficiency during cycling.

Lithium Storage in Bowl-like Carbon: The Effect of Surface Curvature and Space Geometry on Li Metal Deposition

Weibin Ye et al.

Summary: This study investigates the geometry-guided lithium growth behavior using carbon nanobowls as a model host and demonstrates that lithium metal preferentially deposits on the concave surface. Density functional theory calculations suggest that the energy minimization associated with forming low-energy Li/C interfaces is the driving force behind this geometry-guided lithium growth.

Tuning the Formation and Structure of the Silicon Electrode/Ionic Liquid Electrolyte Interphase in Superconcentrated Ionic Liquids

Khryslyn Arano et al.

Summary: The study revealed the important influence of the nature of ion liquid cation and salt concentration on the interfacial structure and solid electrolyte interface (SEI) formation. The IL cation nature and increased Li salt concentration can effectively control the formation of SEI and impact the reversibility of the lithium-silicon alloying process. The findings indicate a clear connection between the nanostructure of IL electrolyte, SEI formation, and the cycling performance of Si-based batteries.
