An artificial intelligence-aided design (AIAD) of ship hull structures

Summary: Ship-hull design is a complex process that requires computational fluid dynamics computation and geometric modeling. To simplify this process, an AI-based deep learning neural network was developed for real-time prediction of ship-hull's total resistance in the initial design stage. The validation results showed that the deep learning model accurately predicted the ship hull's total resistance with an average error lower than 4%. This machine learning approach is a step towards artificial intelligence-aided design in naval architectures.
