Magnetic Skyrmions as Information Entropy Carriers

Roberto Zivieri

Summary: This article outlines a simple scheme to use Neel skyrmions in ferromagnetic materials as carriers of information entropy, based on the analogy between Boltzmann's configurational entropy and the continuous limit of Shannon's information entropy. A data communication system is proposed as a simple application, where binary sources fix the thermodynamic state of skyrmions and ferromagnetic materials act as communication channels. Analytical and numerical calculations show that the information coded by magnetic skyrmions increases as the information content decreases, following the rules of Shannon's information systems.

Size and profile of skyrmions in skyrmion crystals

Haitao Wu et al.

Summary: Understanding the parameters that control the size of skyrmions is important for stability and dynamics control. Skyrmions can exist in different forms, including isolated circular skyrmions and skyrmion crystals in a condensed phase. The skyrmion size in a skyrmion crystal has a different parameter dependence compared to isolated skyrmions or stripes.
