Lori R. Kogan et al.

Summary: The impact of COVID-19 on veterinary medicine and cat guardians has led to increased fears and concerns regarding veterinary care and obtaining pet care products. Moral distress and ethical climate in intensive care medicine during COVID-19: a nationwide study

Moniek A. Donkers et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has posed ethical challenges for ICU professionals, causing moral distress. This study examined moral distress levels and causes in Dutch ICUs during COVID-19, finding that nurses experienced higher levels of moral distress compared to supporting staff, while intensivists did not differ significantly. The highest-ranked cause of moral distress for all professionals was inadequate emotional support for patients and their families. The ethical climate was rated most positively for mutual respect, ethical awareness, and support, while the culture of not avoiding end-of-life decisions and self-reflective empowering leadership received the lowest mean scores. Moral distress scores during COVID-19 were significantly lower for ICU nurses and intensivists compared to one year prior, indicating the need for targeted interventions to address moral distress during a crisis.
