Simultaneous detection and genetic characterization of porcine circovirus 2 and 4 in Henan province of China

Tong Xu et al.

Summary: PCV4 was identified as a novel porcine circovirus in China in 2019. A study in Henan province investigated the prevalence and genetic characteristics of PCV2 and PCV4 in 133 clinical samples, revealing higher PCV2 positive rate than PCV4 and co-infection occurrences. Sequence analysis of PCV2 strains suggested the circulation of new variant strains in Henan province, while putative genotypes of PCV4 strains were determined based on genomic sequences.

Development and application of a quadruplex real-time PCR assay for differential detection of porcine circoviruses (PCV1 to PCV4) in Jiangsu province of China from 2016 to 2020

Nanhua Chen et al.

Summary: There are four species of porcine circoviruses (PCVs) and a quadruplex real-time PCR assay has been developed in this study to differentiate PCV1-4 with satisfactory results. The assay showed 100% agreement with conventional PCR assays when applied to clinical samples from Jiangsu province in China, confirming the coexistence of all species of PCV1-4 strains in recent years.

Prevalence and genetic analysis of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) and type 3 (PCV3) between 2018 and 2020 in central China

Tong Xu et al.

Summary: PCV2 and PCV3 are prevalent in pig populations in China, with PCV2d being the predominant PCV2 genotype in central China, and high nucleotide identity (>98%) among PCV3 sequences obtained in this study and reference sequences.

Detection and genetic characterization of porcine circovirus 4 (PCV4) in Guangxi, China

Wenchao Sun et al.

Summary: The study investigated the prevalence and genome diversity of PCV4 in pigs from Guangxi Province, China, between 2015 and 2019. Results showed that PCV4 shared nucleotide similarity with other representative circovirus genomes and was most closely related to bat-associated circovirus and mink circovirus. This study provides insight into the molecular epidemiology of PCV4 in Guangxi Province, China.

Emergence of porcine circovirus 2g (PCV2g) and evidence for recombination between genotypes 2g, 2b and 2d among field isolates from non-vaccinated pigs in Mizoram, India

T. K. Rajkhowa et al.

Summary: The study identified a new PCV2g genotype in 9 out of 14 PCV2 isolates from pigs in Mizoram, India, along with PCV2d and PCV2b genotypes. Recombination evidence was found between genotypes 2b, 2g, and 2d. The findings suggest a natural genotypic shift in the absence of vaccination, highlighting the importance of routine surveillance and genotyping of PCV2.
