Pneumococcal vaccination coverage in France by general practitioners in adults with a high risk of pneumococcal disease

Aude Kopp et al.

Summary: Streptococcus pneumoniae, the main cause of community-acquired pneumonia, also affects patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure. The vaccination coverage for pneumococcal vaccine is low, especially among patients with diabetes mellitus. New strategies are needed to improve vaccination coverage in France.

The Impact of Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) Coverage Heterogeneities on the Changing Epidemiology of Invasive Pneumococcal Disease in Switzerland, 2005-2019

Oluwaseun Rume-Abiola Oyewole et al.

Summary: Pneumococcal conjugate vaccines have significantly decreased the incidence of invasive pneumococcal disease worldwide, but the impact of regional vaccine uptake differences on IPD epidemiology remains unclear. A study in Switzerland found that while PCV coverage varied between regions, the overall IPD incidence in the PCV13 era only decreased by 16% compared to the PCV7 era. Increased PCV coverage led to reductions in vaccine-type and overall IPD incidence across all age groups, but a rise in non-vaccine-type IPD was observed in older adults.

Adults at risk of pneumococcal disease in France

B. Wyplosz et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the number of adults eligible for pneumococcal vaccination in France by using existing and newly developed algorithms. The research identified over 4 million at-risk patients, who are members of the main health insurance scheme, highlighting the importance of vaccination for these individuals in chronic condition management.
