Aquatisphaeria thailandica gen. et sp. nov. (Tetraplosphaeriaceae, Pleosporales) from freshwater habitat in Thailand

Summary: A novel hyphomycetous genus, Aquatisphaeria, was discovered from submerged wood in a freshwater stream in Thailand. It differs from other genera in the Tetraplosphaeriaceae family with its unique combination of macronematous conidiophores and conidia composed of several columns of cells. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the two strains formed a distinct lineage and could not be classified into any existing genera.
