Differing Life-History Strategies of Two Mycoheterotrophic Orchid Species Associated with Leaf Litter- and Wood-Decaying Fungi

Yuki Ogura-Tsujita et al.

Summary: Mycoheterotrophic orchids depend on mycorrhizal fungi for carbon, with different strategies observed based on the type of fungi associated. Orchids linked to wood-decaying fungi disappear due to nutrient depletion, while those associated with leaf litter-decaying fungi can survive in habitats with regular leaf fall. This study provides insights into the unique life-history strategies of mycoheterotrophic plants and the variation in strategies among them.

Xylodon bambusinus and X. xinpingensis spp. nov. (Hymenochaetales) from southern China

Xiang Ma et al.

Summary: Two new species, Xylodon bambusinus and X. xinpingensis, were proposed based on morphological and molecular evidence, with phylogenetic analyses showing their relationships to other species in the genus. X. bambusinus was found to be closely related to X. subclavatus, while X. xinpingensis grouped with X. astrocystidiatus and X. paradoxus.

Towards a Natural Classification of Hyphodontia Sensu Lato and the Trait Evolution of Basidiocarps within Hymenochaetales (Basidiomycota)

Xue-Wei Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the phylogenetic relationships within the six accepted genera in Hyphodontia sensu lato, supporting the independence of each genus and clustering them into four clades. Multiple new species were described from Hyphodontia, Kneiffiella, Lyomyces, and Xylodon, with the taxonomic status of additional species briefly discussed. The ancestral state of resupinate habit and poroid hymenophore within Hymenochaetales was evaluated, revealing the trait evolution of basidiocarps.
