Barrow agegraphic dark energy

Umesh Kumar Sharma et al.

Summary: The study introduces a new dark energy model based on Barrow entropy and the holographic principle, using a time scale as an IR cut-off. By analyzing conformal time and the universe's age as infrared cut-offs, the cosmological significance of the suggested DE models is explored. The proposed models exhibit adequate nature in terms of equation of state, deceleration, and density parameters, potentially explaining late-time acceleration.

Modified cosmology through Kaniadakis horizon entropy

Andreas Lymperis et al.

Summary: By applying the gravity-thermodynamics conjecture with the use of Kaniadakis entropy, new modified cosmological scenarios are obtained, including an effective dark energy sector depending on the single model Kaniadakis parameter K. The cosmological evolution shows the usual thermal history, with deviations from ΛCDM cosmology at small redshifts in the dark energy equation-of-state parameter. Additionally, the Universe always results in a dark-energy dominated, de Sitter phase at asymptotically large times.

Black hole shadows in M-theory scenarios

A. Belhaj et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the shadows of four-dimensional black holes in M-theory inspired models, specifically examining the influence of M2-branes on nonrotating solutions and how the circular shadow size is controlled by the M2-brane number. The geometrical behavior is distorted for rotating solutions, showing cardioid shapes, with further analysis on shadow deformations as affected by a rotation parameter and energy emission rate at high energies. Investigations also provide constraints on the M2-brane number in relation to observations from the M87* parameters.

Black hole shadows in Verlinde's emergent gravity

Kimet Jusufi et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of baryonic matter and apparent dark matter on black hole shadows in Verlinde's emergent gravity. The findings suggest that the effect of surrounding baryonic matter on shadow size is minimal, but becomes significant with increasing baryonic matter. Additionally, the intensity of electromagnetic flux radiation is influenced by the surrounding mass.

High-energy modifications are able to suppress but not completely remove the curvature divergence of the original naked singularity, and the scalar field induces a peculiar oblateness to the appearance of the shadow.

Modeling the Sgr A* Black Hole Immersed in a Dark Matter Spike

Sourabh Nampalliwar et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of a dark matter spike on the vicinity of the black hole Sgr A* in the center of the Milky Way. The study examines the influence of dark matter density on the shadow radius and image of the black hole, concluding that the effect is weak for realistic densities but may become significant at higher densities near the black hole. However, simulations with radio interferometry, similar to an EHT array, suggest that detecting this effect in the near future is unlikely.

Imprints of dark matter on black hole shadows using spherical accretions

Summary: Researchers studied the identification of dark matter in the galactic center by analyzing the physical properties of electromagnetic radiation emitted from an optically-thin disk region surrounding a static and spherically symmetric black hole. Dark matter can either increase or decrease the intensity of electromagnetic flux radiation depending on the model, with a high energy density of dark matter near the black hole needed for a significant effect. The distribution of surrounding dark matter plays a key role in the shadow radius and intensity of electromagnetic flux radiation.

Barrow holographic dark energy in a nonflat universe

Priyanka Adhikary et al.

Summary: The study discusses the construction of Barrow holographic dark energy in nonflat universe, deriving differential equations for the evolution of dark-energy density parameter and providing analytical expression for the dark energy equation-of-state parameter. The scenario is shown to describe the thermal history of the universe and the sequence of matter and dark energy epochs. Comparisons with flat cases and different spatial geometries reveal interesting behaviors in the evolution of dark-energy equation-of-state parameters under Barrow exponent variations. Incorporating slightly non-flat spatial geometry improves the phenomenology of Barrow holographic dark energy while maintaining smaller values for the new Barrow exponent.

Can supermassive black hole shadows test the Kerr metric?

Kostas Glampedakis et al.

Summary: The unprecedented image of the M87* supermassive black hole has sparked controversy over its usefulness as a test of the general relativistic Kerr metric. The paper argues that our ability to probe gravity with a black hole shadow is only partially impaired by the matter degrees of freedom and the number of non-Kerr parameters used in the model. Existing limits from gravitational wave observations imply that supermassive systems like the M87* black hole would suffer a suppression of all non-GR deviation parameters in their metric.

New test on the Einstein equivalence principle through the photon ring of black holes

Chunlong Li et al.

Summary: The Einstein Equivalence Principle (EEP) is a fundamental test of gravity theories, and this paper proposes a new method to test EEP through observations of black hole photon rings. By studying the dispersion relation of photons in circular orbit, it is found that photons with different polarizations perceive different gravitational potentials, affecting the size of the black hole photon ring. Analytic results show that the change in size of the photon ring is proportional to the violation parameters under the assumption of small EEP violation.

Shadows of parametrized axially symmetric black holes allowing for separation of variables

R. A. Konoplya et al.

Summary: The study explores asymptotically flat black holes in a general metric theory by constraining the metric class with additional symmetries, leading to the separation of variables in the Hamilton-Jacobi and Klein-Gordon equations. It is found that the black-hole shadow depends on a few deformation parameters if the metric functions change moderately near the black hole. Additionally, the shadow of a rotating black hole in the Einstein-dilaton-Gauss-Bonnet theory is well approximated when terms violating the separation of variables are neglected in the metric.

QED effect on a black hole shadow

Zezhou Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, the shadows of static black holes with magnetic monopoles and neutral black holes in magnetic fields were investigated using numerical backward ray-tracing method. The relation between shadow radius and coupling constant for black holes with magnetic monopoles, and the linear relation between eccentricity and coupling constant for neutral black holes in uniform magnetic fields were obtained. It was found that shadow curves can be well approximated by ellipses in most cases, except under certain conditions of strong magnetic fields and observer positions. The study was extended to include a neutral static black hole surrounded by a current loop.
