Seismic response on T-head square-neck one-side bolted endplate connection of beam to square tubular column

Lele Sun et al.

Summary: The seismic performance of T-head square-neck one-side bolted connections (TSOBCs) was evaluated in comparison to a standard double-sides bolted connection (SDBC) under cyclic load testing. Results showed that TSOBCs have higher rigidity, bending moment capacity, and energy dissipation capacity than SDBC. Strengthening measures such as endplate stiffener and concrete filling can significantly improve the performance of TSOBC, but may also affect the ductility coefficient of the joint.

Numerical performance of blind-bolted demountable square CFST K-joints

Dengyiding Jin et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel design for demountable square concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) K-joints, which use blind bolts and through-wall bolts as connectors to separate and reuse steel or composite components effectively. Research indicates that among various flush endplate designs and bolt arrangements, a design with through-bolt anchored beneath the tensile brace and a continuous flush endplate has advantages in material efficiency, joint strength and limiting endplate-chord separation.

Experimental studies on T-stub to hollow section column connection bolted by T-head square-neck one-side bolts under tension

Peijun Wang et al.

Summary: The novel T-head Square-neck One-side Bolt (TSOB) was tested in connecting T-stubs to Hollow Square Steel Tubes (HSST) and various failure modes were identified. Modifications to theoretical models were made to accurately calculate the bending yield strength of the connections, providing better design and performance evaluation for TSOBCs.

Experimental and theoretical modeling for predicting bending moment capacity of T-head square-neck one-side bolted endplate to tube column connection

Lele Sun et al.

Summary: One-side bolting technology is expected to play a crucial role in the bolted connection between H-beam and Hollow Section Steel Column (HSSC). A new type of T-head Squareneck One-side Bolt (TSOB) is proposed, which has simple construction and can adapt to rough installation manners. Experimental studies show that T-head Square-neck One-side Bolted Connections (TSOBCs) have superior bending performance compared to Standard Double-sides Bolted Connection (SDBC). Additionally, yield line patterns and analytical models for calculating bending bearing capacity are proposed.

Seismic behavior of thread-fixed one-side bolted endplate connection of steel beam to hollow square column

Boxun Zhang et al.

Summary: Experimental studies were conducted to investigate the seismic behavior of the Thread-fixed One-side Bolts bolted Endplate Connection (TOBEC) of a steel beam to a Hollow Square Column (HSC). Three forms of strengthening methods were applied to the TOBECs, including the infilled concrete of HSC, the small facing plates, and the big facing plate outside of HSC. Test results indicated that these strengthening methods could effectively improve the mechanical performance of TOBECs, satisfying rotation limitation requirements specified in both GB50011-2010 and FEMA-350, and potentially exceeding the performance of SNBECs.

A review and analysis of testing and modeling practice of extended Hollo-Bolt blind bolt connections

Manuela Cabrera et al.

Summary: Steel Hollow Sections (SHS) offer structural, economical, and architectural advantages in construction, but difficulties in site bolting have limited their applications. Blind bolts, such as the Extended Hollo-Bolt (EHB), have been developed to overcome these challenges and extend the use of SHS in moment resisting connections. The analysis shows that concrete strength and bolt grade are key design parameters influencing the strength and stiffness of the connection.

M. Latour et al.

Summary: Blind bolt systems have been proposed to address the difficulty of bolting access in steel structures, with TFOSBs being the simplest type. Research shows that TFOSBs have specific mechanical behaviors in tension and shear that need to be accounted for in design rules to ensure safety and reliability.
