Practical-Empirical Modeling on Envelope Design towards Sustainability in Tropical Architecture

Lili Kusumawati et al.

Summary: This study introduces empirical formulas for calculating the overall thermal transfer value (OTTV) based on solar factor (SF), effective shading coefficient (S-Ceff), and OTTV. Regression analysis was used to establish practical formulas, and validation tests showed that the formulas have a low Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Average Percentage of Error (APE). The results indicate that these formulas can be used as rules of thumb in the early stages of the design process for sustainable and energy-saving architecture.
