Experimental study on thermal performance of an integrated PCM Trombe wall

Shuangping Duan et al.

Summary: The study tested the use of phase change materials to improve the thermal performance of Trombe wall. Results showed that the suitable PCM with specific melting temperature and latent heat can effectively increase indoor air temperature.

Numerical study on natural ventilation of the wind tower: Effects of combining with different window configurations in a low-rise house

Yan Wu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the ventilation performance of wind towers in low-rise houses and their combination with different window configurations. The results show that optimizing the roof structure and slope can improve the ventilation capability of the wind tower, and setting a window on the windward wall is a more promising solution to improve cross-ventilation.

Natural ventilation potential from weather analyses and building simulation

N. R. M. Sakiyama et al.

Summary: This study discusses the assessment of NVP under two approaches: a general evaluation using only meteorological data, and a specific investigation through building simulation. The research found differences in the frequency of wind direction/speed values in climatic data, but similarities in the hourly data. A multi-zone Airflow Network model was employed for specific NVP examinations.

Natural ventilation in warm climates: The challenges of thermal comfort, heatwave resilience and indoor air quality

Tariq Ahmed et al.

Summary: This review paper examined the ability of natural ventilation to provide thermal comfort, resilience against heatwaves, and good indoor air quality in warm climates. While single sided ventilation showed the poorest thermal comfort performance, cross ventilation performed better in reducing indoor air temperatures. Windcatchers and solar chimneys displayed even better performance with relatively high ventilation rates.
