Sub-millimeter sized multi-component jet fuel surrogate droplet combustion: Physicochemical preferential vaporization effects

Tanvir I. Farouk et al.

Summary: Isolated droplet burning behaviors of fuel mixtures with fully pre-vaporized combustion behaviors were numerically studied to investigate the effects of preferential vaporization. Three multi-component hydrocarbon mixtures were used for predictions, showing strong non-linear dependences on initial droplet diameter and ambient pressure for preferential vaporization effects.

Pyrolysis of 2-methylfuran/jet fuel surrogate blends: An experimental and kinetic modeling study

Zhi-Hao Jin et al.

Summary: The study found that 2-methylfuran (MF) has little effect on the pyrolysis of the three-component (3C) surrogate fuel, while the 3C mixtures play an important role in the decomposition of MF. Specific reactions produce substances like benzene rings and naphthalene, which have a significant impact on the formation of aromatic hydrocarbons and light hydrocarbons.

Prediction of the Derived Cetane Number and Carbon/Hydrogen Ratio from Infrared Spectroscopic Data

Emad Al Ibrahim et al.

Summary: A model based on IR spectroscopy data was developed to predict the DCN and C/H of hydrocarbon mixtures, diesel fuels, and diesel-gasoline blends. Three methods were compared for prediction, with artificial neural networks showing the best performance in terms of DCN and C/H estimations.

Cetane number, derived cetane number, and cetane index: When correlations fail to predict combustibility

Dianne Luning Prak et al.

Summary: The study found that cetane index can capture the general trends of linear and cycloalkanes but fails to accurately predict the properties of aromatic compounds and isoalkanes. Additionally, isoalkanes in petroleum and bio-based fuels can lead to cetane index overestimating the actual CN and DCN values.
