Numerical study on an electroosmotic micromixer with rhombic structure

Siyue Xiong et al.

Summary: In this article, a rhombic electroosmotic micromixer (REM) was designed to improve mixing efficiency by changing the rhombic angle and adjusting the combination of different rhombic elements. The study showed that REM can achieve a mixing efficiency exceeding 99% when an asymmetric potential difference is applied, the AC voltage is 10V, and the micromixer has two sets of rhombic units.

Curved passive mixing structures: a robust design to obtain efficient mixing and mass transfer in microfluidic channels

Ingrid H. Oevreeide et al.

Summary: The study compares the efficiency of two passive mixing structures in promoting mixing and surface saturation in microfluidic channels. Through a large parametric study on the height of the microfluidic channel and the parameters of passive mixing structures, it was found that the curved mixing structure is more effective in inducing mixing compared to Herringbone structures.

High throughput acoustic microfluidic mixer controls self-assembly of protein nanoparticles with tuneable sizes

Amir Pourabed et al.

Summary: This study successfully tuned the size of protein nanoparticles through a mechanical route by modifying the mixing time and strength, while keeping the chemical parameters constant. Using an acoustically actuated micro-mixer allowed for the assembly of protein particles with tunable sizes, leading to smaller particles with a more uniform size distribution than traditional batch processes.

Focused ion beam milling based formation of nanochannels in silicon-glass microfluidic chips for the study of ion transport

Denis Lebedev et al.

Summary: The study focuses on developing a technique for fabricating arrays of nanochannels in silicon-glass chips using focused ion beam milling. It was found that the etching time of focused ion beam has an impact on both width and depth of the created nanochannels. Anodic bonding of a silicon wafer with a glass plate was suggested to encapsulate devices for longer lifetime, and experimental and theoretical methods were used to study ionic conductivity of the produced nanochannels.

Exploring the Design Efficiency of Random Microfluidic Mixers

Naiyin Zhang et al.

Summary: This study presents a method for increasing the design efficiency of random micromixers by generating random libraries of micromixers with different grid configurations and using finite element analysis for simulation. The 5 x 5 grid configuration was found to be optimal, providing abundant fluid velocity and solute concentration, with acceptable simulation cost and reduced chip size.
