The Emerging Role of Polyphenols in the Management of Type 2 Diabetes

Yao Wang et al.

Summary: Type 2 diabetes is a global health issue caused by insulin resistance and pancreatic beta-cell dysfunction. The gastrointestinal tract is an important regulator of glucose homeostasis, with the incretin hormone GLP-1 playing a key role in maintaining glucose balance. Polyphenols from plants have potential anti-diabetic effects by stimulating GLP-1 secretion.

The Role of Oxidative Stress in Hyperuricemia and Xanthine Oxidoreductase (XOR) Inhibitors

Ning Liu et al.

Summary: Uric acid is the end product of purine metabolism in humans, and hyperuricemia is associated with gout, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, and other conditions. Oxidative stress is considered a key factor in the development of hyperuricemia, with xanthine oxidoreductase being a potential drug target for its treatment. Recent advances in XOR inhibitors have been summarized in this review.

Polyphenol contents, antioxidant activities, and anti-cancer cell proliferation properties at each stage of fruit development in intersectional hybrids between highbush blueberry and shashanbo (Vaccinium bracteatum Thunb.)

Yuki Toyama et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the chemical composition and antioxidant activities of intersectional hybrid fruits at different stages of development, as well as their effects on human leukemia cell proliferation. Results showed that the polyphenol and anthocyanin contents in the fruits of intersectional hybrids changed with fruit growth, and exhibited anti-cancer cell proliferation properties.
