Mycorrhizal associations change root functionality: a 3D modelling study on competitive interactions between plants for light and nutrients

Jorad deVries et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that the variation in root functional traits can be explained by a two-dimensional trait framework, which includes a 'collaboration' axis in addition to the classical 'conservation' axis. Simulation results suggest that the presence of AMF promotes thick, unbranched roots for uptake of immobile phosphorus.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal communities of topsoil and subsoil of an annual maize-wheat rotation after 15-years of differential mineral and organic fertilization

Xie Luo et al.

Summary: Through analyzing the responses of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in different soil layers under various fertilization conditions, this study found that AMF communities in the topsoil and subsoil of wheat and maize showed different diversity and composition under mineral and organic fertilization. Fertilization and factors such as available nitrogen and phosphorus in the soil significantly affected crop yield, rather than the AMF community structure.

Agrometeorological Requirements of Maize Crop Phenology for Sustainable Cropping-A Historical Review for Romania

Sorin Daniel Vatca et al.

Summary: The study highlighted the inconsistencies in temperature requirements for maize crop phenology, particularly in the leaf development stage and fruit development stage where the minimum temperature interval overlaps with the optimum. The findings contribute to the establishment of comparable records at regional and global scales.
