Accurate non-destructive prediction of peach fruit internal quality and physiological maturity with a single scan using near infrared spectroscopy

Ioannis S. Minas et al.

Summary: The development of precise and reliable near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS)-based non-destructive tools has been a challenge for assessing the physicochemical properties of fleshy fruit. A novel protocol involving crop load and fruit developmental stage was used to calibrate multivariate NIRS prediction models, accurately estimating peach internal quality and maturity. The study found that preharvest factors such as crop load and canopy position significantly influenced peach quality and maturity, showing the potential for NIRS adaptation across the tree fruit supply chain.

Thinning flat peaches with ethephon and its effect on endogenous ethylene production and fruit quality

Estanis Torres et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that ethephon can induce fruit or flower abscission in peach trees at specific concentrations and times, affecting fruit yield, size, and quality, as well as being related to the ethylene production pattern.

Improved nutritional quality in fruit tree species through traditional and biotechnological approaches

Silvia Sabbadini et al.

Summary: New genotypes with improved nutritional quality have been obtained for different fruit tree species. This has been achieved by either increasing the content of well-known beneficial molecules or by decreasing the levels of specific antinutrients, using traditional breeding technologies, molecular breeding technologies, and New breeding techniques.
