Approaches to the Rational Design of Molecularly Imprinted Polymers Developed for the Selective Extraction or Detection of Antibiotics in Environmental and Food Samples

Oliver Jamieson et al.

Summary: Antibiotic resistance is a global threat that needs urgent attention. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are emerging as a viable alternative to antibiotics due to their low-cost, superior thermal and chemical stability, and simplified manufacturing process. There is a clear need for fast, selective, cost-effective methods to detect antibiotic residues in complex matrices.

Optimization of Cortisol-Selective Molecularly Imprinted Polymers Enabled by Molecular Dynamics Simulations

Emma Daniels et al.

Summary: Modern reliance on technology for monitoring health has led to the development of biosensors for real-time cortisol analysis, a stress biomarker present in sweat. Studies show that the quality of imprinting in molecularly imprinted polymers for cortisol detection is impacted by the component ratio of the prepolymerization mixture, with optimal theoretical complexation achieved at a specific ratio. Experimental results demonstrate the efficacy of these systems, validating the predictive capabilities of molecular dynamics simulations.
