Separation and determination of alkyl sulfate surfactants in wastewater by capillary electrophoresis coupled with contactless conductivity detection after preconcentration by simultaneous adsorption using alumina beads

Huy Dong Pham et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to determine different anionic alkyl sulfate surfactants in wastewater using capillary electrophoresis with capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection. Through systematic optimization, it was found that Tris-His BGE solution at a specific pH, with specific injection parameters, and use of Al2O3 beads for adsorption and preconcentration, resulted in accurate quantification of the surfactants. The results obtained were consistent with those from HPLC-MS/MS, indicating that this method is a new, cost-effective, and suitable approach for analyzing AS surfactants in wastewater.

Fluoride removal from aqueous solution by montmorillonite clay: Kinetics and equilibrium modeling using new generalized fractal equation

Sami Guiza et al.

Summary: This study focused on the use of montmorillonite clay for fluoride removal from aqueous solutions through batch process. The maximum removal of fluoride ions occurred at pH 5.0, with temperature reducing mass transfer resistance and reaching equilibrium within 60 minutes. Different adsorption isotherm models and kinetics models were compared, with GBS and BSF being identified as the best models for describing adsorption isotherms and kinetics, respectively.

Reducing anionic surfactant adsorption using polyacrylate as sacrificial agent investigated by QCM-D

Zilong Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that preflushing with polyacrylate (PA) effectively reduced the adsorption of anionic surfactants, calcium cation bridging was important for the adsorption of surfactants to calcite surfaces, and lower calcium ion concentrations under low salinity conditions contributed to reduced surfactant adsorption on different mineral surfaces.

Green synthesis of mesoporous graphene oxide/silica nanocomposites from rich husk ash: Characterization and adsorption performance

Tzong-Horng Liou et al.

Summary: This study investigates the synthesis of a graphene oxide/SBA-15 composite from rice husk ash and its adsorption properties for Rhodamine B dye. The composite showed enhanced adsorption capacity due to the various oxygen-containing functional groups. The adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order model, with the adsorption rate mainly controlled by the intraparticle diffusion step.

Surfactant-enhanced treatment of oil-contaminated Arctic tundra soil: Ecotoxicological assessment

Olga Kulikova et al.

Summary: The study involved collecting tundra gley soil samples at oil-contaminated sites on the Yamal peninsula during 2018-2019 summer expeditions. The soil was treated with non-ionic and anionic synthetic surfactants, which showed efficient remediation results but raised environmental risks. The surfactant solutions exhibited toxicity towards infusoria and higher plants, emphasizing the need for control over migration of surfactant residues to non-contaminated territories.

A novel adsorbent Auricularia Auricular for the removal of methylene blue from aqueous solution: Isotherm and kinetics studies

Le Bo et al.

Summary: This paper investigated the adsorption of methylene blue by using Auricularia Auricular as the adsorbent. The experimental results showed that under certain conditions, Auricularia Auricular had a good adsorption capacity for methylene blue, and the adsorption behavior conformed to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model.
