Denitrification mechanism and artificial neural networks modeling for low-pollution water purification using a denitrification biological filter process

Liu Zhang et al.

Summary: The research demonstrated that utilizing alkali treated corncob as a denitrification slow-release carbon source in combination with ceramsite media in a DNBF system provides efficient denitrification performance for heavily polluted urban seasonal river water. The denitrification efficiency increased with higher hydraulic retention time and corncob dosage, achieving high removal efficiency for total nitrogen at a low cost. Additionally, the established artificial neural network model accurately predicted the effluent nitrogen concentration in the treated low-pollution water.

Integrated simultaneous nitrification/denitrification and comammox consortia as efficient biocatalysts enhance treatment of domestic wastewater in different up-flow bioelectrochemical reactors

Nuan Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of UBERs with novel inocula to improve domestic wastewater treatment efficiency, achieving high removal rates of COD, NH4+-N, and TN, as well as high current, power density, and coulombic efficiency. The electrodes exhibited diversified catalytic reactions, with predominant microbial populations contributing to functional biofilms capable of performing SND, comammox, and bioelectrochemical reactions.

Role of porous polymer carriers and iron-carbon bioreactor combined micro-electrolysis and biological denitrification in efficient removal of nitrate from wastewater under low carbon to nitrogen ratio

Jian Liu et al.

Summary: A novel bioreactor composed of porous polymer carriers and iron-carbon was established to effectively remove nitrate under short hydraulic retention times and low carbon-to-nitrogen ratios. High-throughput sequencing revealed that Zoogloea sp. L2 was the dominant strain responsible for nitrate removal in the bioreactor.

Comparison of Myriophyllum Spicatum and artificial plants on nutrients removal and microbial community in constructed wetlands receiving WWTPs effluents

Zheng Qiu et al.

Summary: Compared to M. Spicatum, artificial submersed macrophytes generally have higher removal rates of NH4+-N and TN, and similar removal rates of COD and TP when receiving effluents from WWTPs. Microbial diversity in epiphytic biofilms is influenced by substrates, with more complex interactions found in M. Spicatum systems. The results suggest that artificial plants perform better in treating effluents than submerged plants.
