The aim of this research was to reduce 16 carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) emitted from petrodiesel engine exhaust by blending green diesel with various biodiesel fuels. The study found that blending Jatropha oil green diesel with diesel significantly reduced the concentration of almost all PAHs.
The aim of this research was to reduce 16 carcinogenic USEPA polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) generated from petrodiesel engine exhaust by blending green diesel with a variety of biodiesel fuels. In the study, biodiesel samples were synthesized in laboratory from different raw materials using low cost methods. The exhaust engine used for this study was a diesel engine, model no. DIFM 028 of Didaclnternational Janakpuri, New Delhi. These PAHs had a recovery range between 25%-75%. Jatropha oil green diesel was obtained from SSS-NIBE Kapurthala, Punjab, India. Jatropha oil green diesel and biodiesel samples were blended with diesel in different ratio (20:80, 30:70 and 40:60) to investigate the exhaust behavior of petrodiesel engine. It was found that B(a)A and B(a)P were the common PAHs in high concentration in almost all of the samples. According to FTIR results, vegetable oil is esterified to produce biodiesel. The results and analysis were supported by cluster analysis, factor analysis, and Hierarchical Clustering. Based on our results, we found that blending Jatropha oil green diesel with diesel significantly reduces the concentration of almost all PAHs. Blending green diesel with several different biodiesel to operate on a Petrodiesel engine has proven to be one of the most effective ways to reduce the amount of air pollution emitted by automobiles. A study like this could prove helpful in reducing carcinogenic pollutants from our environment. (C) 2021 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.
