Uniforming spring phenology under non-uniform climate warming across latitude in China

Wanying Cheng et al.

Summary: Temperature is the primary factor affecting plant phenology, with spring leaf unfolding dates showing a certain pattern at different latitudes. Despite temperature warming in recent years, the stability of leaf unfolding dates in spring varies across different latitudes.

The confounding effect of snow cover on assessing spring phenology from space: A new look at trends on the Tibetan Plateau

Ke Huang et al.

Summary: The Tibetan Plateau is a climate change hotspot due to its unique alpine grassland and high snow cover. Research analyzed satellite-derived SOS assessments during 2003-2016, finding that SIF and NDPI had strong correlations with field data, while NDVI showed weaker correlations. The study provides new evidence supporting the view that changes in snow cover contribute to the advance in land surface SOS over the Tibetan Plateau.

Gross primary productivity of Brazilian Savanna (Cerrado) estimated by different remote sensing-based models

Marcelo Sacardi Biudes et al.

Summary: The aim was to evaluate different models for simulating Gross Primary Production (GPP) in a tropical mixed woodland-grassland. Among the models tested, the Vegetation Photosynthesis Model (VPM) performed best, showing strong positive correlations with seasonal variations in soil water content and precipitation. All models were able to capture seasonal variations in GPP effectively, making them useful for assessing how climate variability affects carbon cycling dynamics in spatially and temporally heterogeneous landscapes.

Empirical Approach for Modelling Tree Phenology in Mixed Forests Using Remote Sensing

Koffi Dodji Noumonvi et al.

Summary: Phenological events are sensitive indicators of climate change, and remote sensing has been used to model phenology in pure forests, but faces challenges in mixed forests. This study shows that using the seasonal midpoint method with MODIS GPP can estimate the start and end of the season in mixed forests with moderate errors.
